Grant Family Farms lies in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky
Mountains. We have a deep belief that we should grow product that
is best for your health in a way that makes us a responsible steward
of planet Earth. For this reason, for the past twenty-five years,
we have been growing organic vegetables. Our farm was the first
to be certified organic by the State of Colorado. We started in
a very small way as Lewis Grant, a Professor at Colorado State University,
and his young son, Andy, began to grow vegetables in the 60's. This
start proved to be the spark that created a passion in Andy for
vegetable production that blossomed to the 3,000 acres we farm today.
In 1975, Andy committed to transform our farm to the organic growing
method. His commitment at that time was revolutionary. Now, twenty-five
years later, we have become a leader in the production of high quality
Certified Organic Vegetables and Grains.
The main crops we grow are Cabbage, Lettuce, Spinach, Summer Greens
and Herbs, Broccoli, Summer and Winter Squash and Wheat. We grow
these products not only for the fresh market, but also for the frozen
and processed industries. However, we also do other wonderfully
creative things such as make garlic and pepper garlands and very
decorative Christmas wreaths for the festive season. We are flexible,
creative and have the ability to tackle just about any special project
or idea... with flair!
Our commitment is to provide you with the highest quality vegetables
from April through November. This commitment begins with our growing
only organic vegetables and extends through to the quality of the
vegetable your customer takes home:
- We plant using only the highest quality varieties and seeds.
- We harvest only when the vegetables are in peak condition.
- We take care of our vegetables after harvest to ensure they
maintain their peak condition.
- A hydrovac instantly removes the field heat and the product
reaches you with excellent shelf life. Where the product warrants,
we will employ the use of a hydrocooler and a liquid ice system.
- We carefully place pack our vegetables so that when you open
the box they are in the same condition as when they left our cold
storage. Should your customer happen to be there as you place
the vegetables on the rack, they too will be impressed by the
care with which we pack and ship our product. Like your Mom used
to say, "a place for everything and everything in its place"...
an organized pack goes a long way toward the reduction of shrinkage
in your store!
- We attach point of sale to our vegetables so your customer will
be able to identify the item and know how to prepare it when they
arrive home. We have and continue to be a leader in UPC and PLU
innovation!
Being an organic grower, the philosphy that we live by is: "To
produce food that is both safe and good for your health!"
We have in place both Good Agricultural Practices for our fields
and Good Management Practices for our packing sheds and cold storage.
We conduct Independent Third Party Audits during our season.
We were the first in the state to be certified with the Colorado
Department of Agriculture. With Federal Organic Standards now in
place, we will be seeking national certification within the next
year. In the past we have been certified by California Certified
Organic Farmers(CCOF), Oregon Tilth (OT), and Organic Growers Business
Association (OGBA) for special projects.
