Pick Up Protocol

Our Main Protocol

It is your responsibility to remember to pick up your share on the correct day and during the allocated time.  If you forget, we cannot refund, replace or give you credit for your missed share.

If you miss picking up your share during the allocated delivery time, your site host is authorized to give away your share (so the food does not go to waste).  Please do not disturb host by coming late at night or early the next day.  Some of our pick-up sites are at private homes, and unless you have express permission from them, we ask you to respect the times they have allowed for members to access their property.

Please be neat!  When returning your box, place them in like stacks and please be sure not to have old produce scraps or garbage inside the boxes.

ALWAYS look at the checklist before taking anything!  Especially if there are pre-ordered items.  Do not take an item unless they are indicated beside your name on the checklist.  If there has been a mix up, we will remedy it the following week.

If there is a problem with your share or pick-up site, please CALL US, or email, rather than leaving a note, etc.  We will do our best to fix any problem and make things as smooth as possible, but as you know, stuff happens.

Please be respectful!  Treat your pick-up site the way you would wish someone else to treat your own personal property ~With Respect.

IMPORTANT:  If you ever have someone else pick up your share for you (this includes spouses, nannies, neighbors, friends, and people who you split your share with), be sure they know our protocol too, so that they do not short-change other members by taking the wrong thing.  Our Pick-up Protocol is summarized inside every pick-up site binder.

The Binder, the Checklist and Newsletters

There will be a binder at each pick-up location.  Inside is the checklist that spells out what you are supposed to take in the terms of share, eggs, and any extras.

Always go to the binder first and look and see that everything is correct, then check off the box next to your name to let us know you picked up.

If for some reason your name is not on the list, do not take a share, because we didn’t pack one for you.  You will be short-changing another member if you do so.  Instead CALL US, and we will find out why and work things out.

If your name IS on the list, a share has been packed for you, so don’t leave empty handed.  Occasionally someone will take the wrong thing, and if you are one of the last to pick up and there are no boxes left in your share size, you may take a share of the other size (then call and let us know so we can remedy the situation).  People might also forget to check off their name, so don’t assume remaining shares necessarily map to the number of un-checked boxes on the checklist.  Take a share.

Newsletters are emailed to you at the beginning of each week, unless you have chosen to receive a paper version, in which there will be newsletters in side the binder for you.  DO NOT take a paper version of the newsletter if you have chosen an email version.  We send the exact amount requested in hopes to save paper, so please be respectful.

The Box

There are two different colored boxes, corresponding to our Family Share and our Small Share.  ALWAYS take a moment to be sure you are taking the correct size share.  Family Share boxes are GREEN OR BLUE and Small Share boxes are RED.  We only drop off exactly the number of each size share, so if you take the wrong size you will be short-changing another member (or yourself).

Returned boxes should be stacked together.

Your Eggs

All eggs are in one dozen containers.  The number of egg options next to your name indicates the number of dozens you are to take.  One dozen carton=Single Egg Share.

DO NOT take eggs unless they are indicated beside your name on the checklist.  The eggs will be inside a cooler at your pickup site.  DO return cartons to your drop off site the following week, and any extra you have, as we can re-use them.  Thanks!

Any eggs not taken will again be left for the host to take or give out, as he/she feels fit.  Same protocol applies with shares not picked up during allotted pick-up times.

Pre-Order Items

Throughout the season we will be offering bulk/extra items, such as bulk tomatoes for canning, roasted chilies for freezing, meat chickens and turkeys or onions and potatoes for storage.  If you see something that you would want in bulk, drop us a line and we’ll see what we can do.  These items will be on a pre-order system and be delivered with your share boxes, and be listed next to your name on the checklist.   Please DO NOT take an item if it is not listed next to your name!

Exchange or “Trade” Box

All pick-up locations will have an informal Trade Box.  If you have something in your share that you don’t want and will just end up in the compost, you may put it in the Trade Box, and help yourself to anything there that someone else might not have wanted but which looks good to you!  If there is no obvious Trade Box set up at your location, feel free to use an empty share box and start one!
